Qi’s ridiculous semi-mural.
Ridiculous because of how awesome it is.
I will never really get over the fact that this either will be an actual sculpture at LACMA or was almost a sculpture at LACMA. Either way the cookie crumbles, I will be bitching about this piece well into my old age.
Anywho, it hasn’t been in the news lately and no one has been talking about it, but because I can’t ever let anything go, like Georgia, this is always on my mind.
Last night, we had record breaking winds. 97 mph. 97 mph! That’s category 2 Hurricane type stuff. Now I know this wasn’t recorded EXACTLY where this piece will be installed in the Miracle Mile, but overall, it was gusty last night. Over 100 trees are down and I watched as transformers in my neighborhood exploded in a shower of sparks last night for entertainment. What does this have to do with Koons and art and sculptures? I just don’t want to be near that sculpture when these winds come back, that’s all I’m saying.
Ah Jeff Koons- you just made art terrifying.

The next time you’re in a bookstore, make sure to pick up a copy of the Oxford American! Their feature article is on the 100 under 100- the new superstars of Southern art. I was asked to nominate someone for the magazine and my nominee, Joshua Dudley Greer, made the number 7 spot! So check it out to learn about a ton of great, young artists and see my name in print- hooray!

Hey guys, take a minute and check out this USA Projects site by photographer Joshua Dudley Greer for his new project Point Pleasant. For the past three years, he has been making photographs in a remote landscape that was formerly the home of the West Virginia Ordnance Works. In the early 1980’s, EPA and state investigations of this area revealed that the groundwater, soil and surface water were heavily contaminated with explosive nitroaromatic compounds including TNT, trinitrobenzene, and dinitrotoluene, as well as arsenic, lead, beryllium and asbestos. The site was placed on the EPA’s National Priorities List in 1983 and extensive cleanup efforts began in 1991. While a portion of the original facility has been remediated, many of the toxic and explosive contaminants were simply buried on site.
Using an 8x10 view camera, he is photographing the ruins of a once monumental military-industrial complex as it tangles with the surrounding landscape of forest, fields and swamp. TNT storage igloos are depicted in a serial typology to convey the massive scale of military weapons production, while the emptiness of the landscape, photographed with a muted palette and diffused light, is meant to evoke a kind of post-apocalyptic environment - one that is at times bleak and somber, yet also strangely resilient and beautiful.
This is where you come in. He is trying to raise $7000 to print and frame a large-scale exhibition of his work, and he needs your help to make it happen.
Oh and I’m a recent graduate/part time job person as well, so I hear you on the not wanting to spend money thing, but I’ve found that donating even just $5 to help someone achieve their artistic dream/goal is wildly satisfying. Trust me on this one. Good art karma is an important thing to have.
Interesting editorial on the value placed on public art events versus art in a gallery or museum setting. Ch-ch-check it out.

This lovely holiday from work consisted of some serious bumming around, UGA losing (okay so I may not have watched it, but I could still hear and feel the pain of the triple overtime loss), and some side by side arting- my photos and his comic.
Memo block Wooden Sticky Notes designed by Kenjiro Sano
This comes along just when I thought sticky notes had already passed the point of being interesting.
So far, starting at 8 AM, I’ve heard:

DOES THIS PICTURE OF ME AS A KID ANSWER YOUR QUESTION?
I have always, essentially, been waiting. Waiting to become something else, waiting to be that person I always thought I was on the verge of...

I was here, and it was awesome. I will never cease to be jealous of Annie’s kickass guitar playing.
